Burn: Truth, Lies or Catastrophic Cluelessness?

by swede

As the wise and venerable Ragspierre has previously lamented, the truth is taking a bath in our hopeychangey world. A brief selection of veracity challenged “Declarations of Co-Dependence” in the last few planetary rotations to illustrate the point…

Obama On The Economy: "We're Moving In The Right Direction"
Latest Rasmussen: Right Direction: 28% – Wrong Track: 67%

Anita Dunn: "Nobody Denies the Stimulus Worked"
Perhaps true on the planet she apparently occupies.  Here, apparently even Obama denies it, since he's "stimulating" again.

Labor Sec Solis: “In Eight Months, Job Market Has Grown.”
Per her own department stats – eh, Nope.  Grown cold, maybe...

Gibbs: “Obama is a 'committed, mainstream Christian'”
Evidence in support...(crickets)

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson : "I Was Not Aware Of The Rules"
Geez. Who'da thought a congresswoman couldn’t give away stuff to her family?

Paris Hilton: “No, like, see…the purse isn’t mine. Yeah, like, that’s my makeup n’ stuff, and the $1300, and like the asthma pills n’ stuff. But I thought the cocaine was, ya know, like, gum or something.”

Of all the above, I must sadly conclude that I find Ms Hilton’s defense the most credible. One can only hope Vegas courts will have the same level of sympathy for Party Paris they had for OJ. Will they let her keep her poodle in prison? Com'on…have a heart!

Just for the record, Obama is not a Muslim, as apparently 1 in 5 Americans (probably mostly conservatives) now surmise. You can not become a Muslim by birth any more than you become a Christian genetically. It is a decision made by faith [or at knife-point-Rags]. Per the Koran, a Muslim must publicly declare his faith and fidelity to Allah, Mohommad and the Koran, and not waver under any persecution to the point of death. There is no such thing as a “covert” Muslim [unless jihad makes it convenient-Rags], leave alone publicly testifying to Christianity as Obama has done. To Islam he is an infidel.

Is he a “committed, mainstream Christian” as Gibbs says? Well, I certainly have doubts. You can tell what’s in someone’s heart by words and actions. I do not see the actions, sincerity and veracity I would expect from a “committed Christian”. See also Rags' piece on his "spiritual advisors" and the "Liberation Theology" angle here.

Hindenblog! Your one stop shop for the truth! If you can handle it.

  1. I suspect the 20% who believe Obama is a Muslim have been influenced by his time in Indonesia and his father being Muslim.

Then, the Reverend Wright's Church in Chicago taught Black Liberation theology which is not easily recognized as Christianity by he the majority of people in the United States and then Obama claimed after 20 years he was unfamiliar with those teachings. If that is true, he was merely sitting in the church. Obama was quick to disown Wright when it became a "topic".

Finally, I also cannot remember any story on the Obama's going to church since they have been in the White House. If they haven't, that would be the first President and family not to have done so in my memory.

Those three points make it difficult to accept the Gibbs' claim the Obama is a committed Christian.

  2. He actually gave a semi-credible testimony at the Saddleback forum - then invited Warren to do the invocation at the inauguration, which gave me pause. But I agree completely with your (and rags') take - no evidence before or since - and I know of no committed Christian who does not worship.

Warren: Now, you’ve made no doubts about your faith in Jesus Christ. What does that mean to you? What does it mean to you to trust in Christ? And what does that mean to you on a daily basis? What does that really look like?

OBAMA: As a starting point, it means I believe in — that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and that I am redeemed through him. That is a source of strength and sustenance on a daily basis.

  3. Also, guys, in my piece I point to certain common Christian standards.

    Truthfulness.

    Charity.

    The Golden Rule.

Hard...pushing impossible...to connect those to Obama. OR to his "spiritual advisers".

  4. Dead on dude.

“You will know them by their fruits...A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits." - Matthew 7 (Golden Rule is in the same chapter)

Or another take: Doesn't walk like a duck, doesn't quack like a duck, no feathers or big funny feet...
