THE HUMANITY: Rational Optimism

Just as a follow-up to swede's most excellent post, I wanted to introduce you to a book, a man, and a wonderful source of outstanding information.

The man is Matt Ridley.  Ridley worked as the science editor of The Economist from 1984 to 1987 and was then its Washington correspondent from 1987 to 1989 and American editor from 1990 to 1992.

His book is The Rational Optimist.

The source of outstanding information is Uncommon Knowledge.  If you are not familiar with it, treat yourself.  You can find interviews with Ridley, Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, and a host of other people who actually think.

The neo-Maltusians...like Malthus himself...are wrong.  Over and over and over.  The dystopic world they predicted is the OPPOSITE of reality, and it will be if Western nations manage to prevent a stone-age religion from using our technology to destroy us, AND if we can prevent the Collective from re-imposing the Dark Ages.

  1. I just heard about that book from a friend. Now I'll have to read it. My money is on the Collective delf destructing. The fact that they think they lost the election because they didn't communicate well enough is a great sign.
