The Humanity: A Fitting Thing For Veteran's Day And Beyond

Maybe you, like me, have had the impulse to go up and say "Thank You" when seeing one of our service members in an airport or other public place. Maybe you have acted on it, or maybe you let the opportunity go by.

Between Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving, my friend Bruce McQuain, a fer-real warrior who retired after serving in the Army for a long and honored career, and a bunch of other fine folks will be working to put on Cooking With The Troops events, whose purpose is to raise money for service members. It is a way to do something to say we appreciate our people in uniform.

McQ, as he's known on the blog-o-sphere, blogs at Questions & Observations, and also at Blackfive, one of the best milblogs. Though retired, his service to the nation is hardly over.

I can hardly endorse this notion enough, and it seems particularly apt as we approach Thanksgiving. If you are like me, one of the things for which we are most grateful...and in awe of...is the quality of the people who volunteer to serve this nation under arms.

UPDATE: Little news to report on the search. The only good news is that her last known location was a Safeway store on campus - a safe neighborhood - and the police “have no reason to suspect foul play” at this point. Other than that we continue to pray. Please help us if you can to get this information to as many people as possible.

I lived and worked in Manila from ’97 – ’02. Filipinos are without question the the most kind, genuine, caring and generous people I have ever had the honor to know. And for Filipinos, immediate and extended “pamilya” (family) is everything. As in EVERYTHING. A Filipino has “utang na loob” to family – especially parents. It means a “debt of gratitude”, but that doesn’t really describe it. It literally means an “obligation from within” – from the heart and soul. Michelle Malkin will pour her heart and soul into this until Marizela is safe. No hesitation, no question and no limit. It’s just what Filipinos do when family needs you. Pray for her and this family, and especially that this precious young girl will be restored to the love and safety of her family.

BURN: The Deliberate Madness Of The Courts, Pt 1

Normal people can read where our Constitution says Congress has power "To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes". After reading those plain words, normal people understand what they say. But the very deliberate people who sit on our courts cannot read those words and understand them. They are deliberately mad.

For anyone of average intelligence and understanding "interstate commerce" is distinguished from "intrastate commerce". This distinction was a great big "wull, duh" that you will see for about 150 years in American Commerce Clause jurisprudence. Commerce "among the states" (INTERstate commerce) was the kind of commerce the Constitution permitted Congress to regulate.

There were excellent reasons for that EXPRESS reservation, and for the power being granted to Congress in the first place. Consider who was meeting at the Constitutional Congress, and what experience had brought them there.

These were REPRESENTATIVES from sovereign states...mini-nations. They were meeting to CONSIDER a replacement for the Articles Of Confederation, which had kind of been a flop. The CONSTITUTION they were playing around with was an EXPERIMENT...another turn at the governmental bat, and they did not...some of them...even believe it would work out. Their first royalty was to their individual state.

One of the BIG failures of the Articles Of Confederation was in the area of commerce between these mini-nations. It had been quite ugly, actually. The states put tariffs on stuff moving through them to other states, there was huge disparity between a state citizen and an "alien" from another state in the courts, and there was even some barrier to travel between the states, not the least of which was just having roads. I could go on at length, but clearly, this would not do.

So, INTERstate commerce was a VERY BIG reason there was a Constitutional Convention. But, remember who was there...representatives from mini-nations...who were TRYING a new EXPERIMENT. These people were not about to give away the farm to the untried experiment. HELL NO! They were very jealous of their own mini-nation's rights. There was no need...and certainly no intent by the Founders...for the newly formed Congress to have power to regulate INTRAstate commerce. That belonged to the individual states, and they WANTED it that way. That is why they WROTE it that way.

Somehow...and we'll discuss that in a future post...this idea of making commerce possible and productive and fair when conducted between the states has been perverted. It has been perverted now to the point where a judge can deliberate a question under this simple clause, and come up with shear madness.

CRASH: Is Cain Able?

I like Herman Cain. As a man, Mr. Cain is an extremely impressive individual, with an absolutely stellar "life story". The question of the hour is, "What kind of presidential candidate would he be?".

In the recent past, we were sold Sonya Sotomayor as SCOTUS nominee on the strength of her "life story"...or what used to be called her "biography". It was supposed to be impressive, because her intellect and her work as a jurist certainly were not.

So, in the world where "life stories" are important, Herman Cain's biography is a literal Horatio Alger story (hey, it's been recognized by the Horatio Alger Society!). Mr. Cain, at 65, is everything that Barack Hussain Obama is not and never will be, including a man of solild accomplishment, applied intellect, and an American value system predicated on hard work and faith in God.

Unlike Obama, Cain was raised in a strong two parent home. Unlike Obama, Mr. Cain understands and likes capitalism. Unlike Obama, Cain was taught and understands the value of work.

As recent days show, he is not afraid to get down in the hustings of American political controversy, either.

He has been a frequent guest host on both Neil Boortz's and Rush Limbaugh's radio programs. He speaks with what seems a remarkably authentic voice...meaning that (unlike Obama or Hilliary Clinton) whatever audience he is addressing, you hear the same tone, cadence, and vocabulary. With Herman Cain, you get a consistent product, as he might put it in branding terms.

The Boortz connection is perhaps a telling one; Boortz self-identifies as a Libertarian/Conservative. But the Cain/Boortz relationship may be built more on their shared Atlanta roots than any identity they share politically. Both men have an apparent love of Atlanta, where Cain was raised (it is hard to avoid puns).

Can a black American conservative have a prayer of getting even fair treatment by the MSM? That is an open question.

Can Herman Cain become the "brand" that every presidential candidate must, successfully making himself a household name? Mr. Cain knows how that is done in the business world. Are politics and business enough alike?

What, if anything, would opposition research performed by some of the nastiest people ever to slither in the political grass turn up to hurt Mr. Cain? He could be assured that he would be Palinized by the Collective.

There is no doubt that Herman Cain is interested in running to be President. Could he do that successfully? There are too many unknowns at this time to know that answer, but I personally could happily vote for the man, based on what I know of him today. Cain could be able.

BURN: Wisconsin's Quiet Riot

The democratic process in Wisconsin has been halted by what is aptly called a "quiet riot". Just like its noisier cousin, this is a lawless suspension of the civil order.

For days now, the schools in many parts of Wisconsin had been closed. They are closed because so many of their staff have called in to lie about being "sick". Those same people have been outside for days, or cramming the capital halls, to protest the results of democracy, and to prevent it from happening. In the process, they commit fraud and essentially steal their salaries.

Apparently, many of these people and their fellows have made explicit threats against elected officials and their staff. This was so serious that the operation of the legislature was suspended late last week.

The "Flee party" of fourteen thug senators are still a large...somewhere OTHER than where their elected duty mandates, insisting that the rule of law be suspended so their "demands" can be negotiated, exactly like kidnappers would do. They, too, appear to be violating the Wisconsin criminal law.

What is also apparent is that Mr. Community Organizer, Obama, and his minions in Washington, D.C. are behind this lawlessness...not just in spirit, but in real ways pushing it forward. So far, the lawlessness they are pushing has not resulted in injury. So far...

CRASH: The Presidential Outlaw In Wisconsin

Let's just call what we have been seeing in Wisconsin what it is; this is outlaw behavior. The state government in several important ways has been shut down. The lives and safety of people have been threatened. People have openly defied the law, and they are being directed from the White House. The President of the United States is complicit in illegally shutting down the democratic operation of a sovereign state.

If this is not an impeachable offense, why not?

Don't take this as a call for impeachment. That is a whole different can of worms, with way too many tactical and strategic angles to consider here. I only want to...in all seriousness...consider the conduct of The Mad King Barack in light of his exposure to the law. Has he committed impeachable offenses?

Here is what we do know--

1. It is broadly reported...and not denied...that the action in Wisconsin is being orchestrated out of the White House and by the Deemocrat party.

2. It is a violation of law for the 14 Wisconsin senators (the Flee Party, as some call them) to absent themselves for the express purpose of preventing legal, democratic processes.

3. The business of the Wisconsin legislature at large had to be shut down over real concerns for the safety of members and staff.

4. Teachers (along with others) have called in sick for days, shutting down entire school districts. This is fraud.

5. Doctors have provided pretty much anyone who asked signed "excuses" for missing work. This is fraud and medical malpractice in support of a crime.

6. The only public word from Mr. Obama on this has been a statement that was calculated to distort the facts and inflame the situation.

I wrote a book about two decades ago where I predicted "entitlement riots". It seemed like almost a joke at the time...something too preposterous to ever really happen. But, of course, they have happened...in Greece and other places, and now here. Because, while these have been low-key riots...perhaps kept that way by their organizers...they are riots nonetheless. They are calculated to do what riots do; trade civil order for anarchy.

Barack Hussain Obama has, with remarkable openness, apparently worked to subvert the democratic process in Wisconsin. He has violated his oath of office. Those seem to be simple truths. What we do with them is another...much larger...set of questions.

BURN: My New Favorite Fast Food Places

The Collective has put CROSSHAIRS on the good folks at Chick-fil-A and Chipotle. I plan to make it a point to eat at each more, and encourage others to do likewise.

It is no revelation that the Collective HATES fast food places...just for being fast food places. They have outlawed them in certain parts of Kulhifornia cities...places where the consuming public are known to WANT them. "Pro-choice", my little pink butt.

But Chipotle has been targeted for special treatment by the shock-troops of the Collective, SEIU. Why? Because they fired a passel of illegal aliens who were caught working at Chipotle shops--

"We are here today with a simple message for Chipotle: You cannot sell Mexican food and then sell out Mexican workers," said Grant Stevensen, Pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. "After years of service, Chipotle has failed to treat these workers with any sense of integrity - in most cases even breaking Minnesota employment statutes by failing to pay back wages."

"I worked at Chipotle for over nine years and always treated my job as if I owned the restaurant, wanting to do my best for my managers and for my customers," explained Juanita Cruz, a Chipotle employee fired in December. "But getting fired so abruptly was a disrespect to my nine years of service.

The layoffs at Chipotle followed a statewide I9 audit by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) - however, rather than giving workers the standard 90 days to clear up any problems with their documents, Chipotle fired them on the spot.

So, Chipotle CONFORMED to the law, and THAT is what the bitch is!

"We are here to remind Chipotle, and every other company that reaps enormous profits from an immigrant workforce, that they are on watch. Immigrant families and their allies will not stand by while corporations continue to exploit to benefit from a broken immigration system." said Greg Nammacher, Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU Local 26 in Minneapolis.

Now, that is chock full of stupid lies, first of all. There is no allegation that anybody was paid less than minimum wage. The workers were happy as clams...til they were asked for documents they don't have and fired when they could not produce them. "An immigrant workforce" is a rather racist thing to say. If those folk had been born in Texas, would the SEIU puke call them immigrants? But you see where this is headed, right? Open-borders policy driven by SEIU thugs.

The Chick-fil-A controversy stems from the general Christian belief-system of the parent company and most franchisees. One Pennsylvania franchise hired a family support outfit to put on a seminar. The family support outfit opposes same sex marriage. So, Chick-fil-A in general is now the target of a hate campaign by the Collective.

Which makes these fast-food outfits my new "go-to" guys. Prior to this writing, I had never been in a Chipotle shop, but I will be going soon. Chick-fil-A dittos. I hope you will join me, and say why you are there.

CRASH: Egypt...And The Mid-East...On The Knife's Edge

As the rest of the world waits in anticipation, Egypt is playing out the events that will shape its future...and the future of the Mid-East...for perhaps a generation.

The $64,000 question is this: what will the Egyptian populace turn toward; modernity or Islamism? How the Egyptian people treat the Muslim Brotherhood will tell the tale.

According to the available metrics, the picture is not bright (h/t Michael Totten)--

In Egypt, 30 percent like Hizballah (66 percent don’t). 49 percent are favorable toward Hamas (48 percent are negative); and 20 percent smile (72 percent frown) at al-Qaida. Roughly speaking, one-fifth of Egyptians applaud the most extreme Islamist terrorist group, while around one-third back revolutionary Islamists abroad. This doesn’t tell us what proportion of Egyptians want an Islamist government at home, but it is an indicator.

In Egypt, 82 percent want stoning for those who commit adultery; 77 percent would like to see whippings and hands cut off for robbery; and 84 percent favor the death penalty for any Muslim who changes his religion.

Asked if they supported “modernizers” or “Islamists” only 27 percent said modernizers while 59 percent said Islamists:

Is this meaningless? Last December 20 I wrote that these “horrifying figures in Egypt…one day might be cited to explain an Islamist revolution there….What this analysis also shows is that a future Islamist revolution in Egypt and Jordan is quite possible.

The Muslim Brotherhood is one...if not the prime...mover in the radicalization of Islam. They are active, militant, and utterly committed to a vision of Islamism that allows for no place in the world for Western culture.

Under Mubark, they were outlawed in Egypt, which by no means suggests they were not a presence that shaped Egyptian life. It is believed by people who study Egypt that the MB numbers its Egyptian followers in the millions.

Barack Hussain Obama has floated the lie that he essentially "counseled" Mubarak on human rights. That is a dirty joke, in these circumstances.

What this means for Israel is apparent. It will either have a neighbor more interested in life, or one more committed to the cult of death that is Islamism.

The pathetically devastated economic cesspool we inherited from you know who is all better now. Pay no attention to 20 months of the highest unemployment since 1929 - So now we need to take responsibility "and reform our government. That’s how our people will prosper. That’s how we’ll win the future." [Direct quote. sigh] And tonight, I’d like to talk about how we get there.

Innovation - "our generation's sputnik moment!" [does he realize that's when the Russians kicked our azzez?] We need to spend vast sums of money on greenie stuff like algae powered electric cars, solar mills and wind panels. People won't buy the crap because it costs too much and none of it works. So we'll just take their money and shove it all down their throats. You know, like BarryCare.

Ejakashin - We have created the Department of Progressive Education (DOPE) to ensure the teachers union gets much more for doing much less - and has full salary and healthcare for life. Yes my friends, spending more to spend less means a bright, shiney future world with peace, love and polar bears - and you know you're gonna spend 20 bucks a month on paper towells anyway! You'd be crazy not to own this schtick! Here's how to order!

THE HUMANITY: Two Monsters And Some Victims

I am about to say some things many will not like in the least. I have been pondering the stories of Jared Loughner and Kermitt Gosnell. But much more, I have been pondering their victims, and the "voice" they have been given in the media and in our society.

We all know who Jared Loughner is. And we all know the name of at least one of his victims. She is Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. A Federal District Court judge was also killed; can you recall his name? He was murdered, according to accounts, while shielding another of the victims; a hero, performing an act of humanity. There was a sweet nine-year-old girl who Loughner murdered, as well. You can, perhaps, remember her name, and you might have an image of her face in your mind.

But can you name any others of the dead? Do you know their stories in the slightest degree? Can you name any of the wounded besides Giffords, and perhaps Eric Fuller (the poster-boy for Collectivist moonbat-level hate)? Do you have the least idea how they are doing as they recover?

As respects Rep. Giffords, each day brings new stories of her miraculous recovery. Who else among the wounded have you heard about?

The nation was so emotionally fractured by acts of a monster in Tucson, the President Of The United States found it useful to hold a memorial (after a fashion) to help us "heal".

Only some of us know who Kermitt Gosnell is. Many of us do not have a clue. But virtually NONE of us has any idea of what his (almost certainly) hundreds of victims looked like. We have no concept of their stories. We don't have a sweet picture of their smiling nine-year-old selves, and descriptions of what good or interesting people they were becoming. We never will. We cannot recall a single name, because most had no names...outside of "Baby X". A few were adult women. But they were mere units of society, nobody you or I would know.

There will be no memorial for Gosnell's much higher body count of victims, televised over the networks in prime-time and presided over by the Mourner-In-Chief. There is no need to "heal" a shattered nation, because pretty much nobody is shattered by what Kermitt Gosnell did. And certainly not the President.

Loughner committed his monstrosity in a matter of seconds. Gosnell took years. Loughner is mad. Gosnell is sane, as were the people he hired to help him with his monstrosity. As were the OFFICIALS who enabled it.

We have...from tragic time-to-time...mass killings in the U.S. Most of us never know a single victim's name, or their story. Why was Tucson different? I will leave the full answer to that question for you to ponder, but I think we all know the overarching answer; this murderous spree involved someone of power and some fame. A Congresswoman.

Now, I totally get all the rationales that could be named to explain why the life of a Congresswoman suddenly elevates this from your too commonplace mass killing. I get those, and they make me very uneasy. I get them, and I deplore them.

There is a basic wrongness at work here, where we go into a national paroxysm over the shooting of a famous person, but actively, INSTITUTIONALLY conspire in the cold butchery of dozens of helpless, anonymous others.

Part--but only part--of that wrongness in how we weigh the value of human life lies in the FACT that POLITICS plays such an immense role in these disparate stories. But another part is in our culture, and if that changes, our politics will change, too. And, to change a culture, you change hearts.

CRASH: Stupid Regulation, Brought On By Hysteria

In the same week in which Mr. Obama calls for a review of needless...and counter-productive...regulation, we have hysterical calls for new "restrictions" on pistol magazines. They have come from the nanny Collective, but have some support from even some people you would think would be more rational.

The video below shows very graphically why such laws are simply a vacant "feel safer" emotive response to such tragedies as the Tucson murders. Start at about the 2:14 mark for the meat of the demonstration--

The shooter who swaps mags is NOT that quick, BTW.

The Tucson Memorial Pep Ralley has brought more than comfort to the families and nation, it has put TOTUS back on top of public opinion. Per RCP averages, Obama's job approval is in positive territory for the first time since July of last year. (Move over the image for dates and spreads)

I've always leaned toward Rasmussen for the most accurate polling. They called the '08 election dead on target. Even Rassy has Obama in a dead heat 49 - 49.

It is not important what the far left or far right think of Dear Leader. What is important is what the 50-60% of indy swing voters think. These folks are the majority of the voting block, and are for the most part culturally, politically and history illiterate. (See "Don't Know Much About Nuthin'") They can and do swing right or left based on image and perception rather than ideology. The Intercollegiate Studies Institute did a very basic civics literacy test of the US. (you can take it here, if so inclined) The results were not pretty.

I would consider this test middle school level civics. I scored 91 and missed at least one question I read wrong. The sad reality is most Americans don't know or care what goes on in Washington, and vote according to who presents them the best "package". Image is everything.

Here's the present lay of the land in the US. Conservatives are now enjoying a boost from the rejection of the hyper-liberal agenda. The curve usually leans slightly right, now more so. Also in play is a large sector of conservatives abandoning the GOP and identifying themselves as "independent" moving the indy block further right.

The present move left is unsettling. It means Obama may be suceeding in distancing himself from the hugely unpopular Congress and painting himself as a uniter that will get things done. What I'm wondering is...was Barry was just lucky with events, or is he actually wising up - playing to the middle? I'm hoping the former.

The Collective has been caught with their knickers about their ankles over the Tuscon tragedy. They tried mightily to smear various individuals and whole swaths of the American people...and the American people did not like it one bit.

Only today, however, I learned of another such libel...as that term has come to be used in the popular parlance...of which I had never heard. It is equally reprehensible.

In a long and interesting piece by Jack Coleman at Newsbusters (which I recommend you all read) I learned about a Collectivist libel I had never heard before--

As a matter of fact, when the P.A. system in public schools in Texas announced that Kennedy had been murdered, children as early as, as young as fourth graders applauded because they had been so brainwashed with hate. No doubt those are the same Fox News regulars we see today, age-wise it's about right. Like fathers, like son, the Koch brothers have simply relaunched the same murder and hate campaign that they had in the '60s.

That was spoken by a puke named Mike Papantonio, who hosts a program called Ring Of Fire with that genius Robert Kennedy, Jr., on the Ed Schultz radio program.

It is, of course, a lie.

It's author was the famous liar, Dan Rather.

I was in what we call in Texas "junior high" when Kennedy was assassinated. I remember it well. Everyone was devastated, as you might expect. The assassination of an American president...especially in such perilous times...was a deeply frightening event. Nobody said much of anything, and a deep pall settled over the entire school. So I know first-hand that the story of Texas school children cheering the assassination of the leader of the free world is an outright lie.

Rather lied. Panantonio is lying now, by republishing the original libel. Or dare I say "blood libel"? It is the way of the Collective. It is who they are, and how they operate.

CRASH: This Only Proves Moonbats Are Not Bullet-Proof

I devoutly hate that I have to point this out, but someone must; Eric Fuller is simply a moonbat who got shot. I am profoundly sorry Mr. Fuller was wounded by a madman, and that he is experiencing any pain. I wish him a speedy recovery...from both his wounds and his own, quieter, form of madness.

Update: Fuller arrested for threats of violence! IRONY...

His status as a victim is, as we know we can expect from the Collective, being exploited. The barking-mad end of the political spectrum has made very large with his outrageous statements, made on tape, following the shooting.

Listen VERY carefully to this "report" from "Democracy Now" (which is a fundamental Collectivist outfit). See how many lies you can count during the "report", and then listen to Mr. Fuller--

Here are a few of my impressions from the Fuller statement:

1. He had worked to elect Giffords, but was not real happy with her (note what he says about his questions for her).

2. Giffords' is swing district, and Mr. Fuller is certainly on the fringe of her supporters.

3. He is not really bright, much less attached to reality. (Note that he refers to a single notice for a fund-raising event by Jesse Kelley [Giffords' GOP opponent] as a "campaign slogan").

4. Note that during the interview he reads a screed he wrote, indicting everybody who is not Nancy Pelosi, and accusing them of wanting to kill nine-year-old girls.

It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target. Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled—senseless hatred leading to murder, lunatic fringe anarchism, subscribed to by John Boehner, mainstream rebels with vengeance for all, even nine-year-old girls.

The priceless part about this "report": it was followed immediately by an interview with Frances Fox Piven, of Cloward-Piven fame, who is making a call for renewed efforts to bring down our nation...including mob action.

“So where are the angry crowds, the demonstrations, sit-ins and unruly mobs?” she writes. “After all, the injustice is apparent. Working people are losing their homes and their pensions while robber-baron CEOs report renewed profits and windfall bonuses. Shouldn’t the unemployed be on the march? Why aren’t they demanding enhanced safety net protections and big initiatives to generate jobs?”

He also appears to have given an interview to Media Mutters (to itself, in a dark basement), where he doubled down on his own hate and madness--

Asked if he thought Palin or other media commentators had an impact on the shooting, he said:

"Definitely. Let's say through some fluke Jared Loughner never ever heard of Sarah Palin or [Glenn] Beck or Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity and the rest of the crime syndicate, and dreamed it all up on his own, that he'd go over there and wack her.

"There are still plenty of demented people that are in need of a good spanking who are out there and plenty of access with the gun shops to assault weapons thanks to the son of privilege letting that expire. There is the matter of the media attention to it. It is going to make this even more desirable yet.

"If you are going to scream hatred and preach hatred, you're going to sow it after a while if you've got a soap box like they've got. We've got a surplus of demented dingbats, wackos."

Fuller went on to criticize national media outlets that allow violent rhetoric on the air: "I would put Sarah Palin in first place there. I think, really, she should be incarcerated for treason for advocating assassinating public officials. That map I saw that she published on the Internet had crosshairs on it and one of them was meant for Gabrielle Giffords."

Loughner needed a good spanking? How about an enema?

As with all the Collective, cause-effect relationships are just too hard for Mr. Fuller.

I feel about Mr. Fuller as I did about the tragic wreak of an exploited human being, Cindy Sheehan. They are very alike in many ways. I hope Mr. Fuller has people who love him, and can help him avoid the fate that Sheehan experienced. Get him under control, and don't let him be exploited by these ghouls...for pity's sake.

Says the Gray Lady... "It was important that Mr. Obama transcend the debate about whose partisanship has been excessive and whose words have sown the most division and dread." Well, good on ya mates - finally an appropriate mea culpa. Please continue... "This page and many others have identified those voices and called on them to stop demonizing their political opponents." Right. And I am a magical rabbit with death-ray eyes. It boggles the imagination how people ostensibly with cognitive function beyond that of a cantaloupe could be this obtuse. The level of hypocrisy and/or utter ignorance here defies comprehension.

But let's give them a chance - perhaps they will do a little soul searching... "The president’s words were an important contrast to the ugliness that continues to swirl in some parts of the country." I wasn't privy to the Obama-Dupnik con-flab, so I cannot know what in the world Obama was "thanking" Dupnik for. I have a pretty good idea.

Without...by his own admission...the slightest evidence, or any idea of a causal connection...Dupnik has been more than willing to smear everyone who is not a Collectivist "open-borders" lover.

Not only "willing", Dupnik has INSISTED on it, and smearing his own constituents. According to Dupnik, Arizona is full of sick bigots. The most dangerous place on earth for a few days following the massacre was between Dupnik and a camera, where he variously slandered Arizona, Palin, the TEA Party, Rush Limbaugh, ETC.

Of course, this alleged golden age also produced assassins Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan, James Earl Ray and Squeaky Fromme, among others.MSNBC's Keith Olbermann declaimed rhetoric that "has devolved and descended, past the ugly and past the threatening and past the fantastic and into the imminently murderous." Despite such hysteria, this "climate of hatred" argument has no empirical backing. Federal data show that so-called hate crimes have declined from 4.0 incidents per 100,000 people in 1995 to 2.4 in 2009, a 40 percent drop. Facts like that spoil the "right wing hate speech" narrative, so liberal pundits simply ignore the facts.

The political agenda at work is the long-time liberal objective of imposing controls on political speech on television, radio and the Internet. The subtext of the liberal argument is that the American people cannot be trusted to engage in a rational debate of public policy, but must have their choices limited by government lest violence ensue. To the contrary, the First Amendment must never be truncated because of the actions of a single deranged individual.

Anyone who understands civics knows that the real danger of violence comes when the PEOPLE are denied a voice. But watch the actions of the Collectivists in government and the MSM.

Having met with a rejection of their corrupt and bankrupt ideology via the 2010 elections, the Collective has precious little on which they can place hope. People have seen them. We don't like what we see.

Then came the shootings in Tucson. And IMMEDIATELY came the blood libel the Collective was aching to find...NEEDING to find. The shootings of dozens of CITIZENS, one a little girl, another a Congresswoman, and another a sitting Federal judge, could be blamed on...vaguely...the Collective's opposition. The more effective the person or group, the more they would be targeted.

It is a variation on an old tactic; cravenly use ANY national tragedy for political purposes. It has been used to dragoon lawmakers into passing gun control laws for decades.

The blood libel has a execrable pedigree of propaganda, including The Protocols Of The Elders Of Zion. Hate someone enough, but lack actual FACTS?...no problem; just make them up! It works for various groups around the world today.

Those groups share at least one thing in common...they have nothing else. As here, in America--

In a moment of rare candor...and glaring stupidity...Jonathan Alter admits--

Conservatives like to argue that these are isolated incidents carried out by lunatics and therefore carry no big lessons (unless the perpetrator is Muslim, in which case it’s terrorism); liberals view them as opportunities to address various social ills. Obama is in the latter category and should act accordingly. “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” Rahm Emanuel famously said in 2008. He simply understands it gets results for his Collectivist agenda.

Nor is Alter alone...or even the most bald-faced in this admission. You will find various "operatives", "advisors", and other Collectivist hacks offering quotes all over the place today. "This is JUST what Obama needs... Hey, it worked for Bill Clinton!!!!".

Doubt that?

Veteran Democratic consultant Dan Gerstein said the crisis “really plays to Obama’s strengths as consensus-builder” and gives him the opportunity to build a deeper emotional connection with the people he governs.

“He’ll be active, but also very careful not to appear like he’s blaming or politicizing,” Gerstein predicted.

Politicizing? No, NOT OBAMA!!! He wouldn't do EXACTLY what he is being advised to do...and has hundreds of surrogates out doing right now. And they don't require direction...the Collective KNOWS how the game is played. You doubt that? Google "vitriol Giffords" and see what you come up with.

And they know the blood libel is ALL they have now. They are like the Arab terrorists who teach their own version of the blood libel to each other and their children. They NEED to believe it, too. But as sane people see it, they turn in revulsion. The Collective is being exposed.

Such a brutal and violent attack on an individual who has devoted herself to public service is deeply regrettable. It calls upon us as an academic community to stop and ponder the climate in which such an act can be contemplated, even by a mind that is profoundly disturbed. A climate in which demonization of others goes unchallenged and hateful speech is tolerated can lead to such a tragedy. I believe that it is not a coincidence that this tragedy has occurred in a state which has legislated discrimination against undocumented persons. This same mean-spirited xenophobia played a major role in the defeat of the Dream Act by our legislators in Washington, leaving many exceptionally talented and deserving young people, including our own undocumented students, painfully in limbo with regard to their futures in this country.

We must be vigilant to condemn hate speech and acts of vandalism on our campuses by those wanting to promote enmity. We must work to support dialogue about our differences and eschew expressions of demonization of others,including virulent attacks on Israel, anti-Muslim graffiti, racism towards African-Americans, Chicano/Latinos and other underrepresented minority groups, and homophobic acts. Continuing to support our principles of community will ensure a better and safer campus. We must do this now so that our students, as future leaders of this great country, will continue to set the standard for a better and safer nation.

An addendum to Ragspierre's piece on the Giffords media feeding frenzy...

Flashback: November 5, 2009 - the day after the terrorist attack at Fort Hood - we knew Nidal Hasan began his shooting rampage shouting "Alahu Akbar", his business card was marked SoA (Soldier of Allah), he exchanged 18 emails with top ten terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki, he posted praise for Islamic suicide attacks on the net, attended a known radical Islamic Mosque, openly opposed military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan and told a neighbor he was about to "do a good work for God." In other words, he did everything but paint "Radical Islamic Jihadist" in red letters on his forehead. Yet the universal mantra from the press, POTUS and the moonbats was "We must not jump to conclusions." Hasan was..."troubled."

But now, almost literally before the smoke clears, every MSM/moonbat piece on Giffords' attack begins with, "We do not yet know the motive for the shooting, but..." followed by a tyrade about rightwing "vitriol." Yet not one instance can be offered citing specific calls to violence apart from the absurd references Palin's "target map" of election districts. Puh-lease. "Target, bullseye, in your sites" are broad metaphors used across the culture. Every campaign identifies "target districts" - are they advocating mass murder? Every news.communication effort has a "target audience." So, they advocate killing their audience? In urban slang, a bar, workplace, classroom etc with a large number of members of the opposite sex is a "target rich environment." So obviously these singles want members of the opposite sex shot? BTW - for obvious reasons stay away from your local "Target" store.

According to his friends, Jared Loughner was a "far left pot-head." I don't buy that any more than that he was a tea partier. Read about his public behavior and his online rants - then look at the clinical symptoms for Paranoid Schizophrenia.

The New York Times should be ashamed of itself for providing Krugman a forum, but it isn't. The Collective should be ashamed...on a daily basis...for the kind of crap served up by The Dailey Kos and its Kos-sacks, but it isn't. It is their stock-in-trade.

Right behind Krugman and Kos was Hanoi Jane Fonda, tweeting that this was Sarah Palin's doing. And right behind her came the Pima County Sheriff, famous for his Collectivist views on law enforcement.

Time for some "soul searching", indeed, Sheriff Dupnik. And time for a new sheriff, Tucson. You can see what he thinks of the people he "serves". Show him what you think of him at the voting booth.

Dupnik makes mention of people who make a living exploiting "vitriol". That word is amazingly consistent in the howl of the Collectivist hyenas. But take note of one such person who makes a living on vitriol--

Which, of course, a lie. Clinton thuggishly pinned the Oklahoma City bombing on his opposition generally, and Rush Limbaugh in particular. Tax Enough Already (TEA) Party citizen activists are not "anti-government". That is a Collectivist lie, along with the several others they have tried...and failed...to smear them with. We are anti-BIG GOVERNMENT...anti-Collective.

But the tactic of the ambulance-chasing, tragedy-exploiting Left will work with some of the weaker minds in this country. That includes GOP "senior Senators"--

A senior Republican senator, speaking anonymously in order to freely discuss the tragedy, told POLITICO that the Giffords shooting should be taken as a “cautionary tale” by Republicans.

“There is a need for some reflection here - what is too far now?” said the senator. “What was too far when Oklahoma City happened is accepted now. There’s been a desensitizing. These town halls and cable TV and talk radio, everybody’s trying to outdo each other.”

So, the drive to self-censorship in response to the lies and demagoguery of the Collective's hyenas begins.

Today, it is a safe bet that all the talking heads on TV will be asking the same question. They will follow the "vitriol" and "anti-government" meme set in place by the haters in their vanguard. The goal is to put the majority of Americans who oppose the Collective on defense.

Americans who want our borders secure are not bigots. We are not anti-government ticking time-bombs for wanting our government to be limited according to the Constitution. We are the calm, rational people who produce the wealth of this nation, and from whom the taxes are extracted. We are the people who pray for the recovery of the victims of this demented killer, and who mourn the dead without a political thought or motive in our heads. (and with exactly the same number of units on the road) The brain rust at NY Times figures the snow job delay was the result of Mayor Bloomberg's failure to declare a "snow emergency" - requiring people to remove all vehicles from the streets for snow removal. The question, "How and where to?!?" was apparently irrelevant to their thesis.

There are exceptionally ignorant (or just plain stupid OR dishonest) people who stomp up and down when one utters the term "death panel". It is one of those amazing vignettes in American life that the obvious...and inevitable...is denied with such froth.

There never was any question that a nationalized government health care system would require "death panels". All such plans just do, as somebody has to decide where to put resources. When BIG GOVERNMENT strips you and I of our right to decide what to spend on our health, and how to spend it, BIG GOVERNMENT MUST make the choices regarding resources.

Under ObamaCare, the Federal government has just naturally punted on that decision-making process, to the degree they can. They have pushed mandates down to the states, via Medicare, that are forcing the individual states to cut back on what they can provide. This is called "economics".

As a result, people in all 50 (or is it 57?) states will be more ill, in more pain, and simply die. This will happen regardless of who sits in the governor's mansion, or who controls the legislature. The iron laws of economics are asserting themselves.

The state [of Arizona] stopped paying for heart, liver and other transplants on Oct. 1, prompting criticism of Governor Jan Brewer, a Republican.

“We are the only state that has cut transplant care,” state Representative Anna Tovar, a Democrat from Tolleson who received a stem-cell transplant, said in a telephone interview. “Who are they to put a figure on a person’s life?”

Now, I don't care who you are...THAT is irony!

There will, of course, be Federal death panels, as well. Again, somebody has to decide what to spend on your health, and Obama and the Deemocrats took that choice from you.

John Doerr, and things really got cookin’. Doerr is a partner with Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers (KPCB), a venture capitol firm in Silicon Valley. Actually, THE venture capitol firm. Some of KPCB's funded ventures are: Brio Technology, Compaq, Electronic Arts, Flextronics, Genentech, Lotus Development, LSI Logic, Macromedia, Quantum, Segway, Sun Microsystems, and Tandem. Doerr’s most notable KPCB clients – Amazon.com, America Online, Google, Intuit and Netscape. GIM is now worth somewhere north of 3 Bill, and KPCB is into 11 figures.

Follow the Gore/Doerr connections in the middle of the map. Gore became a co-partner at KPCB - and Doerr at Gore's GIM - and both are directors at Google - and corporate advisors at Silver Spring Networks – which they are funding through KPCB and GIM. Silver Spring develops high tech utility power grid applications, power meter systems, etc.

Noteworthy side note: On April 24, 2009, during a congressional hearing, Gore was asked if he was a member of KPCB, and then was asked: "The legislation that we are discussing here today, is that something that you are going to personally benefit from?” Gore (mis)stated that every penny made from his investments were put in a non-profit to spread awareness of climate change. The exchange ended with Gore saying: “Do you think there is something wrong with being active in business in this country? . . . I am proud of it. I am proud of it.” When the smoke cleared some very substantial federal greeenie grants went to clients of Silver Spring, Ausra (Manufacturers of solar/steam generators – another Gore/Doerr project) and untold other Goer/Doerr interests. Stimulus, don'tcha know.

The "non-profit" he was referring to would be “Alliance for Climate Protection,” that oversees other non-profit campaigns, including Repower America, the Climate Project, Repower at Home, the WE Campaign, the Reality Coalition, and works with its affiliated organization, the “Climate Protection Action Fund.” Overall they represent more than 8 million members worldwide. Using these tax exempt organizations to “spread awareness of climate change” in reality means “instilling worldwide fear and panic” about an imagined global catastrophe, and the urgency of immediate action – resulting in HUGE profits for KPCB, GIM, Silver Spring, Ausra and numerous other Gore/Doerr interests.

Doerr, you may notice, also serves on the “President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board” which is advising Dear Leader how to push his green-collar jobs agenda – rather than real recovery and jobs. Also on the POTUS board is Laura Tyson – who just happens to also be the director of Silver Spring! What “luck”. OK, the deck is stacked - Deal!

The old axiom in business was, "Find a need and fill it." The new business model is "Create a crisis, then sell your solution." “I'm really scared. I don’t think we’re gonna make it," dire and dismal Doehr begins. Listen to the first and last few minutes if you don't have the time. A real tear jerker, or perhaps tearful jerk. But the religion of the Collective CANNOT be questioned, as everyone involved knows it cannot withstand the requirement that it be demonstrated. No, indeed, we must act immediately as a matter of faith.

I have said that President Obama is an economic fascist, NOT a socialist. This is simply an observation of reality. I read an opinion piece by someone I respect (on the Kudlow, Krauthammer, Will statum) some time back that disagreed with this notion, on the grounds that Obama is not a dictator. I thought at the time that this was remarkably simplistic...and terribly wrong. Fascist economics do not require a dictator. They don't even require a Deemocrat; Richard M. Nixon was a leading proponent of fascist economics, too.

In America today, we don't have A dictator...we have a thousand dictators...a thousand points of blight on our Republic.

A thousand demi-dictators are VASTLY more dangerous to our Republic than would be a single one. They become the embodiment of "LIBERAL FASCISM".

Who are they? They are not hard to identify. Some of them are odious, and some seemingly benign. A few of them are popularly elected, as we see in the 111th Congress...but only a few of them. Most are beyond the power of the people to remove from their positions of power.

And their power is hardly uniform. Some of them are TERRIBLY powerful...far beyond most people's appreciation. Some have only very limited power. But, taken together, they have power that approaches the absolute. And we know what absolute power does vis-a-vis corruption, don't we?

They are the judges who tell us an amendment to our state constitution passed by popular vote is "unconstitutional".

They are the DoJ attorneys and other Federal and state apparatchiks who decide they will NOT enforce our laws. Or who abuse their power to deliberately styme both state and Federal law.

They are the commissioners and staff of a baffling number of Federal bureaucracies who EXCEED or do not exceed the power of their agencies according to law, and who promulgate rules and regulations that DICTATE how we live. For a contemporary example of the EXCEED kind, think "FCC". But think also of the EPA and a baker's dozen others.

Milton and Rose Friedman, two of the greatest Americans and thinkers of our time, wrote The Tyranny Of The Status Quo about three decades ago. In it, they described "the iron triangle"...a combine of interests that would always and automatically act to brunt change at the Federal level.

One corner of that iron triangle was and is the bureaucracy...a nameless, faceless agglomeration of people who wield enormous and virtually irresponsible power. Hans A. von Spakovsky has pointed out that these people are generally Collectivists (he did not use that term), and this is one ESSENTIALLY important reason that conservatives will tend to be disappointed by the people they elect to office. Those ELECTED officials virtually CANNOT alter the stampede, except to slow it (as in Ronald Reagan).

For several decades, I have been unable to sing the National Anthem. I cannot answer the penultimate question about "the land of the free, and the home of the brave" without weeping. Our national government is dominated by a thousand little dictators, and we have allowed that.

Am I pessimistic about that continuing? No, ever the cock-eyed optimist...who insists on dealing with reality...I simply know it to be true NOW. I have reason...via the TEA Party movement...to be more optimistic than I could have been just a year or two ago. People can change what elected politicians cannot.

It's Not the Fall, It's the Sudden Stop

While Prime Minister Emil Boc was addressing the Romanian Parliament, a man, identified as state-TV engineer Adrian Sobaru, executed a swan dive (actually more of a belly-flop) from a balcony to the chamber floor. During his brief flight, he yelled “Boc, you’ve taken away the rights of our children.” He wore a T-shirt saying “You’ve pierced us. You’ve killed our children’s future. Freedom.” Sobaru has an autistic son, and was distraught over losing his government health benefits. He survived the fall, and was heard repeating "freedom" as he was wheeled out of the chamber. I might suggest the allusion to Braveheart somehow misses the mark.

Setting aside for the moment the obvious question of how Sobaru figured taking his life would improve his autistic son's situation - his "belly-flop" was tragically illustrative of the big picture of epic European failure, and where the US is heading if Obama's "radical transformation of America" is not radically transformed - and pronto.

Violent demonstrations are breaking out across Europe from Greece to France, Spain, England, Ireland and yes, Romania - as people adamantly oppose their governments pulling back entitlements that should never have been promised. Simply stated: Governments have promised that which they do not have, and entitlement obsessed people are now demanding that which is not there.

I genuinely sympathize with this poor schmuck - not because of his pathetic attempt at a dramatic statement, nor the loss of his healthcare entitlement - but because the Nanny State has taken away his self-sufficiency, self-respect, dignity and hope - not to mention the "freedom" he thinks he has lost. And I can't help thinking of the irony that this hideous socialist HopeyChangey monster presently being created by the demented Dr. Frankenbama - is the very thing that threatens to destroy hope in America.

I do not anticipate Social Security or Medicare being available when I reach retirement age - leave alone the greatest/worst entitlement yet - BarryCare. Yet I have no fear of the future. I will simply keep working as long as possible doing what I enjoy, and making due with what I have. My peace of mind comes easily because I do not place my hope and trust in my government, but my God, the ultimate source of our freedom, sovereignty, dignity and hope.

“Forty acres and a mule” was the motto of the “Freedmen’s Bureau” after the civil war – an attempt at reparation to former slaves by giving them an opportunity to succeed (or fail) on their own. It is also the opening phrase of a judicial opinion by Paul Friedman, a Clinton appointed activist judge in the “Pigford vs. Glickman” case in 1997. The original case was relatively small potatoes, involving about 400 black farmers who were discriminated against and denied loans by the Department of Agriculture between 1981 and 1997. Clinton’s Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman publicly apologized for this apparent bias, opening a floodgate of further claims and actions. Clearly what Judge Friedman had in mind by using this phrase was far beyond discrimination against some farmers. It was another attempt at reparations to black people for past injustices across the board – perceived or real – at taxpayer expense.

To date, the original 400 aggrieved farmers has grown to 94,000 claims – a remarkable phenomenon considering there have never been more than 33,000 black farmers! This has become the largest taxpayer rip off / scam in history, with billions already awarded – and Obama recently signed “Pigford II”, authorizing another $1.2 Billion for further claims. Most of the recipients have never farmed in their lives! Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack acknowledges perhaps ten cases of fraud associated with Pigford - there are in fact thousands! Whistleblowers at USDA and attorneys are coming out of the woodwork.

CRASH: "No Labels" Would Give Us Lots Of Obamas

The "No Labels" notion is bankrupt in any number of ways, but you have to give them their due in one area; that is how we got Barack Hussain Obama as POTUS.

Consider; the man ran AWAY from who and what he is...with the connivance of a LOT of enablers...so successfully that people are still discovering stuff. Not everyone, of course. But a very large segment of the voters had no idea about BHO...by design. Obama was the first "no labels" president.

And really, that is the whole idea behind "No Labels". Think of it as consumer fraud...with your ballot at stake.

In the world of marketing, people with a product spend LOTS of money on people with genius, who spend lots of time and talent on shaping a brand. Actually, shaping a brand is something that everyone does in a good company...top to bottom.

And brands are not "advertising gimmicks". They are important talismans that convey a great deal of information to us. Picture "Honda", and then picture "Chevrolet". Picture "Whole Foods" as opposed to "Wal-Mart". Even those simple words conjure up huge amounts of information. If you roll into a strange town when all the cafes are certain to be closed (as I have many times in the oil field), if you see the "Golden Arches" you are assured you are not going hungry that night, and a uniform, quality-controlled menu is available.

We need, use, and want labels...or brands. And there are people who will try to muddy the water...to take the value of the brand away by confusing us. Chrysler can and will design a car to look like a Mercedes. Advertising campaigns can and will be designed to try to make you think a Kodak camera is the equal of a Nikon. Caveat emptor.

Conservatives are remarkably happy running for political office as conservatives. Not so liberals, except in a very few places. Generally, Liberals/Progressives/Collectivists/Statists are very busy assuring you that they are not who they are, and spend a great deal of money and credibility in the pursuit. They don't even mind telling you they are nothing in particular. A Honda NOR a Chevy...just a generic car. Above all that "advertising hype". Just as good...you'll see...(sucker)...

The global temperature maps published by Nasa present a striking picture. Last month's shows a deep blue splodge over Iceland, Spitsbergen, Scandanavia and the UK, and another over the western US and eastern Pacific. Temperatures in these regions were between 0.5C and 4C colder than the November average from 1951 and 1980. But on either side of these cool blue pools are raging fires of orange, red and maroon: the temperatures in western Greenland, northern Canada and Siberia were between 2C and 10C higher than usual.

Well, the maps show that IF you cook the maps, George. See, it is kinda a matter of SCALE...

This is the map Moonbat would like you to see, with those "raging fires of orange, red and maroon" covering whole bunches of territory. It uses a 1200 km "smoothing" of the data.

But if you use a 250 km "smoothing" scale, this is what the map looks like--

Funny... Those appear to show very different realities. Those "raging fires" become isolated data points, instead of huge swaths of territory.

CRASH: Frivolous Lawsuit (or Complaint) Defined, version 2

NOW (the National Organization of very few really twisted Women) has very publicly filed a series of complaints in Kulhifornia (where else?) against Hooters. They allege that Hooters is selling sex to children.

Like the infamous Happy Meal case, this is the very stamp of a frivolous abuse of the judicial system...this time criminal or quasi-criminal. NOW is willing to divert public safety resources to a stupid publicity stunt. Patty Bellasalma is the "person" behind this stunt. (I would have said "lady", but she would hate that.)

That is, I hope that is all it ever is...a stupid stunt. Kuhlhifornia has some really screwy laws (what else?), and I have a sneaking hunch that by very creative twisting of some of them, there might actually be an argument in support of the NOW position.

Let us be clear; I have yet to spend a dollar at a Hooters. I have five daughters I raised to be fine, strong women. They would kill me. Also, I like to concentrate on my food...

But Hooters is not a "sexually-oriented business" as that term is used in most jurisdictions, any more than would be a private swimming area that charged admission. Clothing is not determinative of that; conduct is.

The use of the term "adult" seems to be the shoe-horn that NOW is trying to apply in the Hooters case. Here is why that is frivolous--

children are not customers of Hooters; they are brought with their parents
parents have a right to take their kiddies to a restaurant...or into a tavern or grill in many places...if they wish (in many places in the Mid-West, those are the best family dining venues around)
children are not exposed to overtly sexual conduct at Hooters (unless a customer commits assault...a crime...which could happen anywhere)
young ladies in tank-tops and shorts are wearing more clothing than the kiddies would see on a Kuhlifornia beach...by several orders of magnitude
NOW calls child-sized Hooters shirts "prurient material"...no really
if this was a civil action, NOW has WHAT for standing? And WHAT for a justiciable question? Meaning, what do they get if they win? Being that it is NOT a civil action, I still wonder about STANDING. Who is really behind this?

Here is why this is curiously hypocritical...even for the Collectivists that make up NOW--

I can't recall a peep of protest from NOW at street sex openly practiced in San Francisco
if the issue is COMMERCIAL activity, what about the street vendors in San Francisco openly selling sex toys, fetish devices, and demonstrating their wares?

Kids may certainly eat a meal with their PARENTS at a Hooters without being exposed to overtly sexual...anything. But there are streets and days of the year where you cannot say that in San Francisco, the venue of one of these complaints. So, what, REALLY is NOW's problem? NO HOOTER COOTERS. Thanks to the criminal Assange, whose bail Moore very publicly contributed, this has been revealed. It was contained in leaked cables from the United States Interest Section in Havana.

Moore either did not have the wit or the honesty to realize that he was portraying a medical system and facilities for the "more equal" segment of the Cuban population...the Communists elite and their guests, and others who could bribe their way in. I file and defend against law suits for a living. I cannot imagine filing a frivolous law suit, and I wonder what people mean when they natter about them being a big societal problem. This, however, is a great example of one of these rare beasts.

WASHINGTON—A mother of two from Sacramento, Calif., says that McDonald’s uses toys as bait to induce her kids to clamor to go to McDonald’s and to develop a preference for nutritionally poor Happy Meals. With the help of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, today the mom, Monet Parham, is filing a class action lawsuit aimed at stopping McDonald’s use of toys to market directly to young children. The suit will be filed in California Superior Court in San Francisco shortly after the court opens for business Wednesday morning.

It isn't really a serious law suit...on any number of levels. Note the "forum shopping"...mother in Sacramento filing in San Francisco (where the "City Parents"...over the veto of their mayor...just outlawed Happy Meals). I have no idea of the venue rules in Kulhlifornia, but that wouldn't fly in Texas.

But the "mother" involved is an amazing example of litigious idiocy by a reproductive unit (not a parent), along with her Center For JUNK Science Against The Public Interest co-idiots. See, this isn't about winning a lawsuit. This is all about flogging a Collectivist agenda and imposing litigation costs as a strategy.

Note, for instance, that the content of the CSPI press release shows this not-parent has about a dozen choices she refuses to exercise--

turn off the TV
allow your children to only watch PBS (which will propagandize them in ways you'll approve)
provide your daughters a father (this involves a perhaps unwarranted assumption on my part, but there is certainly no indication this "mother" has a father in the home), since fathers are better equipped (generally) to say "NO", and it provides another source for "NO"
learn to say "NO" (this will become increasingly necessary as your children mature)
learn to say "If you pester me after I say 'NO', you will be punished"...and mean it (actual parents learn this lesson fairly early)
teach your children to resist social pressure (which is all this is about, and WILL get much greater as these girls mature)
buy the Happy Meal...and have the gumption to ORDER the meal with the optional "good stuff"..."Even though Happy Meals television advertising shows brief glimpses of healthier products, such as Apple Dippers and low-fat milk, the default options put into Happy Meal by McDonald's employees are usually French fries and sugary sodas."
buy the Happy Meal...give the kids their toys...and DISCARD that awful food (that most people in the world would kill to have)
buy the Happy Meal...give the kids their toys...and DONATE the food to someone who needs it
buy the Happy Meal...and EXERCISE with your doughy progeny
find some toy with which to bribe your brats (who you are teaching to be brats) away from the Happy Meal
surrender custody of your children, since you clearly cannot deal with the responsibility of parenting

Remember, as you read about this, that the Nazis were anti-smoking, anti-processed foods, pro-vegetarian, pro-organic zealots. They also relied on the power of the state to undermine families and dictate choice. The Collective is remarkably consistent.

Is there a REMOTE chance that this lawsuit will result in the relief requested? I don't think so. Is there a chance it will cost MacDonalds a lot of money to fight? Stuxnet Virus.

When this little critter found the control system for thousands of centrifuges, it changed the RPM of the units, seriously damaging them and rendering the uranium useless. The latest news is that it will take years for the Iranians to purge this little fella from their computers and their nuclear weapons program is for all intents and purposes dead on arrival.

The source of this awesome new weapon remains unknown (heh, yeah right), and may never be found. There were only two scientists in Iran who were even close to being capable of dealing with Stuxnet - one was killed and the other disabled when motorcyclists happened by and attached magnetic bombs to their car doors. Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad is of necessity the best intelligence operation on the planet. Latest imminent threat to Israel neutralized - not a shot fired - no collateral damage - no war - no nukes - no mas. Just. Freaking. AWESOME!

CRASH: It's Time For Trust

Actually, it is time for A trust. The Death Tax is set to return with a vengeance. The Collective will start to again take over one-third of our estates from our loved-ones, but there is time to do something about that.

Isn't it just like Collectivists to combine the two inevitabilities in life...death and taxes...into a charming additional burden on a grieving family? Ah, can you feel the love for their fellows!

Full disclosure here: I am a lawyer, and I will help people form a trust. But this isn't a commercial (hey, this is an anonymous blog...see?). This is just sound advice.

But it also isn't TAX advice so much. I HATE tax law, and I have a kink about it. Really. When even my clients need tax advice (and that is often), I have to tell them to talk to somebody else.

But I DO understand the big picture, and the excellent device our ancestors left for us in the form of trusts.

A trust is a wonderfully plastic legal fiction. If you have an estate that will become subject to the Death Tax, you can put stuff into a trust now, use it for as long as you live, and it ALREADY has been set aside for the benefit of anyone you want to leave your stuff. No probate. No will (unless you have kids that will need a guardian). No Death Tax. No fuss.

Is a trust free? Uh, no. No free goods, remember? Something for something. But are they excellent instruments for assuring your family, friends, pets, whatever gets the benefit of what you earned? Yeppers, they are.

You tell Uncle Sugar to go mine someone else's gold (teeth). You have already put your's where he can't have it.

I’m not sure I could have gotten through the Obama press conference just now without John’s bracing live-blog posts. I have to say, the president’s political performance was the most partisan I have seen from an American chief executive. The references to the needs of the people were perfunctory and disordered, at best. The cast of President Obama’s rhetoric was entirely in the mold of the bruised ideologue.

I don’t recall Obama ever coming off in a national forum quite so much like a leftist community organizer. In demonizing his political opponents, lecturing his base, and vowing to fight on in a long struggle, Obama appeared to be channeling his political roots in radical activism. He evoked an activist street fighter on the steps of city hall more than a president of the United States. The president is our head of government but also our head of state: a ceremonial symbol of national unity. One of his chief duties is to be happy about that.

Radical activism, to be sure. But also his own HUGE-bris (a term I coined, because his exceeds mere hubris), which has been challenged. And not by a bunch of obstructionists, but by the American people who just took away his toys and served him with a restraining order.

The "us" they don't like are the Collective, which we have seen revealed in its pure plumage for the first time in decades. And the "they" who likes it not are the American people.

Tax rate reductions are "good" and apparently stimulative of the economy if they are provided to the middle-class. See, that is all just so silly that even a century of conditioning cannot make it fly.

Tolerance...?!?!? We dun need no stinkin' "tolerance". See, according to Mullens, if you don't break over for the new "tolerance" for gays in the military, you need to find other work. Tolerance, indeed!!!

Now, I find nothing to bar openly gay men and women from serving in many military positions. REPs (Rear Echelon Pukes) are actually the majority of the military, not war-fighters. For every killer, you have LOTS of support people in uniform (thanks to all of them, BTW). Even pilots could be "skippy as they wanna be" as far as I'm concerned. REPs don't tend to live anything like the kind of lives of the real killers.

But the Joint Chiefs are ignoring the expressed views of their real war-fighters, and they are doing it out of political correctness. It WILL cost us in terms of our defense. It WILL undermine what we used to call Unit Freaking Integrity, which is enormously important. Like the EXTREMELY poor experience of women serving on combat vessels, this will be largely covered up.

Flag-rank officers (Generals and Admirals) are ESSENTIALLY political animals who happen to also know something (we hope) about military matters. These Chiefs are given over to PC at the expense of our national security, and they need to be set straight by the people they serve...but especially those who volunteer to serve at the point of the spear.

Speaking of Washington, DC, a Federal judge there essentially told the Supreme Court to screw itself recently in his lather to help reinstate a gun prohibition in that city. Precedent be damned...right along with the Constitution.

The New York Times has redoubled its editorial nonsense against gun ownership and those who advocate that citizens should have a right to have them and carry them. According to the voice of the Collective, such people are irresponsible, and a threat to "public safety". Hmm...

Then, there is this nexus; Americans are being trained to be happy cattle, passive in the face of TSA conduct that would constitute a sex crime in another context, and is a miserable, stupid, and vacant violation of civil liberties.

At the same time, we are being told by our Collectivist "leaders" that more and more of us will be pushed to use mass transportation for our needs...buses and the boondoggle bullet trains our taxes are being squandered upon. I think it may be fairly universal that pistol-carry permit holders are not allowed on city buses with their weapons now. Eugene starts from this premise; sure, the TSA policy is stinking bad, but the only alternative is the civil-liberty destroying monster of PROFILING. Those two choices he offers us, and nothing more.

Sure, the "don't touch my junk" guy touched a nerve. I spend enough time fighting my way through airport security lines to share his frustration at ever-changing procedures that seem capricious, intrusive and sometimes just bizarre. But what, specifically, is the alternative? [My emphasis]

Apparently, Eugene does not have time to read. Or think much. Why, for instance, were we not subjected to invasive pat-downs nearly a year ago, when the Fruit-Of-Kaboom bomber very successfully brought a bomb aboard a US bound flight? The TSA says that the full-body scan machines were not ready before recently, but TSA people with hands and gloves were in no short supply a year ago. Why now?

If Eugene could find the time, he would read excellent mind-expanding pieces like this, from Michael Totten, describing the Israeli method for airline security. I mean, I'm a practicing attorney, and I found the time. Eugene would have learned that RACIAL PROFILING is not what the Israelis do.

They also don't look for stuff primarily. They look for people. They are PROACTIVE, where our TSA is REACTIVE. We are looking for the stuff people used LAST TIME. Which is beyond stupid. The 9/11 murderers weaponized airliners using OUR REACTIVE POLICY in response to conventional hijacking. They used box-cutters, so all "sharp objects" are now verboten (including finger-nail files). Never mind that one can kill you at least as effectively with a common ball-point pen (which nobody cares about).

What the critics really mean is not that the TSA should let underwear bombers board planes. What they're saying is: Don't search me, and don't search my grandmother. Just search the potential terrorists.

Hmmm... That sounds SUPER REASONABLE to me. Eugene never offers any rationale why that might be a bad idea, except...

In other words, they want profiling. That's a seductive idea, I suppose, if you don't spend a lot of time worrying about civil liberties. But it couldn't possibly work. Our terrorist enemies may be evil, but they're not stupid.

"Profiling"...OMG, we could not have THAT. But some of us DO spend a lot of time worrying about civil liberties...and how the tension between them and public safety ALWAYS has to be carefully weighed. Eugene and Howard Kurtz, among other Collectivists, seem quite sanguine about the CIVIL LIBERTY invasions the TSA thinks are mandatory.

If we only search people who "look like terrorists," al-Qaeda will send people who don't fit the profile.

But nobody suggests that we do that, Eugene. Nobody. That would be as stupid as our TSA policy is right now. We have the INTELLIGENCE to deal PROACTIVELY with terrorist threats, and that would not entail stupid prohibitions on U.S. air travelers, mowing down civil liberties, OR worse than useless practices that expose us to another attack.

CRASH: "Profiling" Versus Fixed Fortifications

George S. Patton is reputed to have said something like, "Fixed fortifications are a monument to the stupidity of man". By that Patton, a very astute student of military history, meant that in the modern battle-space, pouring resources into a fixed fortification was not efficient. Motivated people of considerable genius would find a way to defeat them, by-pass them, or even use them against you.

The TSA specializes in building fixed fortifications...which are all false front buildings like you would see on a movie set. They are not even real defenses. Not even for the LAST terrorist attack. Motivated people of considerable genius are working to defeat them, by-pass them, and even use them against us.

Like movie sets, they are part of an illusion. In this little melodrama, they are meant...supposedly...to give the flying public some semblance of security that the flying experience is safe. This is gilding the lily, and at enormous cost. Flying is safe...it is the safest mode of travel of which I know. One of the paradoxes of the police-state TSA practice is that it is forcing more Americans to drive, and more of us will be killed. And that will happen to no good end.

The cost/benefit ratio is completely askew. The smart play would be to do as the Israelis and many Europeans do. It is not "profiling"--it is way more than that.

The Israelis do not pull Middle-Eastern-looking men (or women or children) out of line...mostly because so many Israelis are Middle-Eastern-looking people. Duh. Rather, they use intelligence...in the several meanings of that term...to provide a telescopic process of evaluation applied to only certain passengers. Race has very little to do with it, just as race has very little to do with good police work on the streets of your town or city.

An Israeli-Arab passenger will receive hardly a look, where my passport might flag me as someone who needs special attention. That special attention does not (from all I can read) include making me strip down to my underwear. It DOES involve having to answer some questions, put by very sharp people who only do that a few times a day.

Most importantly, it works. It is not a sham. It fluidly responds to fluidly changing threats. It is only minimally invasive...and not at all invasive for the vast majority of passengers. It is, most importantly, not a stupid kabuki that kills the very people it pretends to protect.

CRASH: The New Broken Window--Illegal Immigration Enforcement

During the 1980s and 1990s, people like Rudy Giuliani put the "broken windows theory" to work in some of America's most violent and crime-ridden cities. It apparently worked.

Now comes evidence that enforcing our immigration laws on the streets leads to reduced crime...especially violent crime. This is exactly the opposite of what people like Bill White (former mayor of sanctuary city Houston, Texas) and Harold Hurtt (one of White's police chiefs) told us would happen. They insisted that policing illegal immigration will result in MORE crime, since the illegals will be less prone to report perdators in their midst (among other things).

What is really significant here is that Hurtt is now the ICE Director of the Office of State and Local Coordination (OSLC). In other words, this anti-enforcement devotee is in charge of the interface between state, local, and Federal law enforcement. The Obami are nothing if not consistent.

Hurtt and his views on immigration enforcement play a pivotal role in the drama between the Feds and Arizona...and every state in the Union. What the study shows is that Hurtt and the other sanctuary "thinkers" are not only mistaken, they are exposing Americans...and very likely immigrants...to greater risk of harm.

And, according to the study, after a period of adjustment, everyone...including Hispanics...found they could live quite nicely with our laws being enforced. Imagine.

Maybe enforcing our laws...contrary to what the Collective tells us...actually works to make all law-abiding people safer. Maybe living with dignity is something to which every good person responds well.

Shazaam. It turns out that Chawlie Rangel is Black! Who knew? Oh, and he once did something or other with Martin Luther King. So he should walk, right?

Well, that was the impetus behind Rep. John Lewis' comments, here (h/t Legal Insurrection)

Now, Mr. Lewis has lost all credibility he ever possessed over the lies told by the CBC regarding their treatment by ObamaCare opponents.

But pretend Lewis was credible; Duke Cunningham was a bona fide war hero. That did not...nor should it ever...excuse his corruption while in high office, which was no worse or different than that of Rangel. And it did not excuse it, or mediate his punishment or his fall.

But Rangel is a Collectivist, and he is Black. And in this America...which is more racially oriented than it was a few years ago...that matters. It never should, but it does.

Do you notice anything strange about this chart? The chart breaks down economic growth into 5 year segments. Notice that the chart breaks up the Bush years from 2001 to 2005- during the Clinton recession and 9-11 – and 2006 to 2010- including the mortgage meltdown of 2008 and Obama’s failed first two years in office. Of course, breaking up the Bush years in this way is a clever way for big government statists to misrepresent the tax cut effects on the US economy.

But of course! When they can't show their stupid ideas actually...you know...WORK, they simply LIE. It is the Collectivist way. Like "creating or saving jobs". But we know them, and the rest of America is waking up, too.
